Alternatives to WhatsApp

Writer: Szymon MochortSzymon Mochort

In an ideal world where everyone cares about their privacy, WhatsApp would have zero users. However, it is not that ideal world. Zuck has access to all of your messages [although he claims he does not] and all of my friends and family are using the service. As much as I want to switch to Telegram or Signal, I cannot. My family do not care or are not bothered.

Let's make that ideal world a possibility by showing you the 2 alternatives to WhatsApp that are popular.

Signal

You've heard of it. It's an open-source WhatsApp replacement with true E2EE. If you like WA, this is for you. Signal >> Home

It has fewer features than WA, but is growing fast and has over 105 million downloads, and has been peer-reviewed like crazy. If you're paranoid, check the source.

Telegram

This is more of a drop-in replacement to Discord, but is similar to Signal. It has features called groups that can be shared with a link, unlike WhatsApp groups which spread through word of mouth. While WA is very closed-down by nature and Discord is very open by nature, Telegram is somewhere in between. It's also open-source.
