Pretty recently. the popular forum BreachForums was taken down by its secondary administrator because its owner, Popmpmpurin, was arrested by the FBI for selling illegally-obtained personal devices.
Background
BreachForums (https://breached.vc/) was a website that was the successor to RaidForums, which was a site that allowed people to share and most importantly sell stolen and leaked account databases. BreachForums was notable for holding a lot of really big ones, such as a Twitter database with over 400,000,000 entries.
BreachForums was maintained by Pompompurin (real name Conor Brian Fitzpatrick), who has a bit of a reputation in the hacker world, puttting it mildly. In early March 2023, Pom was arrested by the FBI for selling stolen databases and will stand trial and speak up for his crimes.
Once its secondary admin, Baphomet, found out. he immdediately burned the servers to the ground (not literally), meaning that the domain now displays a 502 HTTP error.
What happened?
What Did Pom Do?
Pompompurin was a notorious hacker, mainly because he was rather arrogant. He had made a lot of enemies down under, including the FBI. He had hacked into the FBI's InfraGard network in 2022 and sold its database to BreachForums users. As one might imagine, the FBI was rather offended by this and had to do something to avoid getting clapped on by BreachForums' users.
How He Was Caught
Allegedly, in early 2023, the FBI got access to one of BF's CDNs (Content Delivery Networks) and got access to it. From here, they could access backups, logs and even account data. By that point, all they had to do was wait for Pom to make a mistake.
After tracing his email addresses and phones (since he had logged onto BF with a phone, big mistake, it is the FBI after all), they found his home IP when he accidentally logged onto the site without his VPN. The FBI contacted Verizon, who provided the address of Pom's house. By that point, it was game over. Pompompurin was KO'd by one of the most powerful organisations in the world.
Conor Brian Fitzpatrick was subsequently arrested by the feds. Unfortunately for BreachForums, no-one noticed at first.
What Happened To BreachForums?
48 hours after his arrest, the secondary admin, Baphomet, notices that Pom hadn't logged in in a while. As such, he assumed the worst and set the place on fire before shutting it down. When he realised that his assumptions were correct, he made several updates on his Telegram channel.
Future
BF will not return. Baphomet plans on making a successor, but only time will tell. The only guarantee is that I will make an article if any new developments occur.
