There are a lot of programs out there.
Some good, some bad.
I have compiled a list of 10 programs I own, that you should too.
I will only list free ones, however.
number 10: Microsoft Edge
Bet you did not see that one coming.
Edge is my current web browser and I love it so far.
It is one of the fastest out there, and it is based on the Chromium engine, which is what Chrome is based on as well, so you do get a lot of great features from Chrome.
It includes a feature called Collections, which lets you save a list of sites for visiting later. I honestly thought it downloaded web pages, but it DOES NOT!
Edge also has an ad blocker, but I recommend AdBlock Plus because it only filters intrusive and fake ads.
It also lets you import your favourites, passwords* and history from other browsers.
It does not work in Chrome. You need to use LastPass to actually do that!
i will upload a blog explaining how to do so.
Number 2: Internet Download Manager
If you have a slow Internet, or you are downloading large files, this is THE best download manager yet.
I use it all the time.
If you shut down or it crashes, your download is not lost.
no more putting it to sleep to keep downloading!
It has an array of useful features, and can be downloaded for FREE from a special site. *
*this is an EXRTERNAL site and it may be taken down. please scroll down and press the download button.
Please remember that the password for the zip file is 123 and you need extraction software to extract it.
Number 3: 7-zip
ever downloaded a 7z file, or a RAR file, or a Zip file and don't know what to do with it?
It's an archive!
These are files which contain files inside them.
You need 7-zip to extract them!
Just download it and the file associations are made, so you browse these strange file formats that are everywhere.
number 4: Adobe Acrobat DC
ever come across a PDF file?
this program lets you open them.
Note that old PCs lag a LOT with this app.
Just use Edge to open them if anything.
number 5: Icon Shepherd
so you have all your icons neatly arranged, all organised in a way that is somewhat UNDERSTANDABLE to you, and they just...rearranged themselves?
You need Icon Shepherd if so.
It lets you save and load icon layouts and even automatically saves them so you do not need to worry!
just look in your system tray.
number 6: Microsoft Office
free?
Excuse me?
£184.99 for a copy!
Well, see my future article on how to get MS Office for free.
Number 7: Adobe Creative Suite 6
while it is only a trial, there are workarounds.
Get the 30 day free trial today at the lovely website where you got IDM
Number 8: {removed name]
this one I would not fully recommend.
It is not the most trustworthy antivirus out there.
I know it is genuine though.
Trustpilot gives it a review of excellent. Nice.
[download link taken down]
I did this because I tried it and decided it sucks in more ways than one.
First, it is NOT free.
Second, I hate it because it just SUCKS and the reviews are fake.
Use a different AV instead. I use Windows Defender at the moment.
Number 9: VLC media player
if you play video and audio a lot, this one is for you.
it can play EVERY SINGLE POSSIBLE video and audio file format ever made, and it has an array of features.
Number 10: WhatsApp Desktop
for those with Windows 10.
If you want WA on your PC, just download it from m the Microsoft store, accessible by opening the start menu, scrolling down to M and clicking on Microsoft Store.
link for this one will open the MS store anyway, but use it if you are lost.
there we have it.
10 cool free programs to download.
all 10 have handy links as well.
I have nearly all 10 but I plan to get them all.
Bye!
I will make a part 2!
